Our Mission

Democratizing radio broadcasting by turning every smartphone into a professional-grade studio.

The Story of BroadcastMySelf

BroadcastMySelf started with a simple observation: while the world was moving towards mobile-first content creation, professional radio broadcasting remained tethered to expensive hardware and complex desktop setups. A serious internet radio broadcast in 2019 required a desktop computer running specialized software, an audio interface, a professional microphone, and a stable wired ethernet connection. The barrier to entry was high, the setup was fragile, and the entire workflow was anchored to a single location.

The developers at Suga Apps, based in the beautiful highlands of Sri Lanka, had spent years building audio engineering tools and were deeply familiar with the open-source streaming ecosystem—Icecast, Shoutcast, Ogg Vorbis, and the underlying network protocols that power internet radio worldwide. They also recognized that modern Android hardware had quietly become extraordinarily capable: flagship phones were running multi-core DSP chips, processing 32-bit audio natively, and connecting to 4G networks that could sustain a high-quality audio stream indefinitely. The gap between what was possible and what existing apps offered was striking.

The first version of BroadcastMySelf was built to answer one question: could a single Android app provide the complete broadcast workflow—professional server connection, real-time DSP processing, music playback, and streaming—in a package that was genuinely usable by non-engineers? The answer, after two years of development and extensive real-world testing with DJs, journalists, and community radio operators, was yes.

Today, BroadcastMySelf is used by thousands of independent broadcasters in over 60 countries: mobile DJs streaming live sets from events, citizen journalists reporting from the field in real time, community radio stations that serve diaspora audiences worldwide, and hobbyist broadcasters who simply love radio and want to create their own station without a studio. The app handles 32-bit floating-point audio processing with a full suite of studio-grade DSP tools—equalizer, compressor, noise gate, auto-ducking—all running in real time on the same device that is simultaneously encoding and streaming the audio to a server.

The mission remains what it was from day one: to make professional-quality radio broadcasting accessible to anyone, anywhere, with nothing more than the phone already in their pocket.

Our Journey

2019

Initial Development

Suga Apps begins research into low-latency Android audio processing. First prototype of an Icecast client demonstrates viable mobile broadcasting on mid-range hardware.

2021

First Public Release

BroadcastMySelf v1.0 launches on the Google Play Store with core Icecast and Shoutcast support, basic DSP effects, and the integrated music player.

2022

DSP Engine Overhaul

Complete rewrite of the audio processing pipeline using 32-bit floating-point arithmetic. Adds the full 10-band EQ, auto-ducking, and the noise gate—features previously only available in desktop software.

2024

LiveMic Pro Launches

Suga Apps releases LiveMic Pro—a companion app focused on the mic-to-speaker use case, bringing low-latency audio routing to presenters, tour guides, and content creators.

2026

Present Day

BroadcastMySelf reaches thousands of active broadcasters globally. Continued development focuses on 5G optimization, expanded codec support, and deepening integration with managed radio hosting platforms.

Our Values

  • Privacy First All audio processing happens on-device. We do not transmit microphone data to any Suga Apps servers. Your audio goes directly from your phone to your chosen streaming server.
  • Professional Standards We do not compromise on audio quality to reduce computational cost. Every DSP algorithm is built to professional broadcast specifications.
  • Genuine Accessibility Complex technology should have a simple interface. We obsess over UX so that a first-time broadcaster can go live within 5 minutes.
  • Battery Performance A broadcaster who runs out of battery mid-show fails their audience. Our processing pipeline is continuously optimized for minimal battery draw.

The Team

Suga Apps is an independent development studio based in Sri Lanka, specializing in high-performance audio and multimedia applications for Android. Our small, focused team combines backgrounds in audio engineering, mobile development, and UX design.

We are proud to be a Sri Lankan product serving a global audience. The combination of world-class software engineering talent and the perspective of creators who understand what it means to broadcast from a developing country—with real-world constraints around bandwidth, hardware cost, and connectivity—shapes every feature decision we make.

We believe that the tools of professional broadcasting should not be gatekept behind expensive hardware or enterprise licenses. Our business model is designed around making the core product genuinely useful for free, with premium features for those who need them—not the reverse.
